A Day In The Life

I'm afraid to say that I don't have any big stories for today's post. I know I said that I would write about the apartment I am staying in, but I figure that I will get to it eventually.

Work was pretty good today, I spent most of the day reading through old experiments and research conducted by past scientists. The first document I read was from 1894; let me tell you, that was unique! It's interesting though, I feel more like a colleague than an intern at the institute, mostly due to the office to be honest. I am afraid that here pretty soon they are going to ask me to leave. You see, as I was reading through one of the experiments that we are trying to emulate, I noticed an incongruency in what had been reported with what we are trying to do. When I went to tell my Ph.D. host student that we (and in reality I meant "she") might be going about the project the wrong way, she told me that she had thought of that just five minutes earlier because of something else I had asked her that morning. So she tried to contact a company that makes electrodes while I contacted the professor who did the original work. Now it's just a waiting game. A waiting and praying game.

For lunch the researchers from the institute usually get together and walk over to the campus Student Union-like building. Seeing as I have no great desire to be the creepy American loner, I generally go with them. It's always interesting to see what's on the menu for both food and discussion. And I finally got asked the question today. How do I feel about Obama? I said he could probably take Merkel in a fight.

For dinner tonight I decided that I needed to get out and eat instead of just going to bed early or wolfing down more Leberwurst. So I walked to the nice-looking restaurant on the corner of the street I live on. And I was right, it was rather nice; almost too fancy for my taste. I ordered a pretty standard German meal of Wienerschnitzel, fries, and a salad with a coke. In total it cost me just over 10 Euros. Not a bad price for the quiet atmosphere and quantity of food, but I feel like I wont eat there often.

After dinner I took a walk around the greater block and took a look at all the different styles of architecture present. It's certainly an interesting thing to see two buildings with very old French-looking facades squeezed in on either side of a building that was most definitely designed with the Cold War in mind. Something that I found amusing was the graffiti. Now I had noticed on my train ride from Frankfurt that the Germans seem to have an unsatisfiable need for graffiti, but what I found amusing today was that someone had very stylishly sprayed the word "BAMF" all over the place. Lolz.

I'm curious to see just how many more times I can use the word "interesting" to describe my daily experience. I will have to keep an eye on that in the future. On a different note, I have decided that every night I am going to sign off with a new phrase. You know, like the phrases that all the hip news anchors sign off with (i.e. "and that's the news").

So with that said, "Don't question the data".
